Business Review Canada got an up close and personal look at QNX’s new Porsche Carrera concept car at CES 2012. Debuting the next big thing in automotive technology, the concept car featured connectivity like no other.
The QNX Porsche definitely caught CES attendees’ eye on the expo floor. Featuring exciting technology such as smartphone integration, tablet rear-seat entertainment and HD hands free communication, the concept car was exciting to experience.
The QNX system provides consumers with entertainment, communication and connectivity throughout the car. Seen at CES, the driver is able to pass content and entertainment back to the rear seat BlackBerry PlayBook tablets—creating a safe environment for passengers who want to be entertained and drivers who shouldn’t be distracted. Additionally, voice recognition technology allows for completely hands-free control, whether you want to open a mobile app or listen to music, the car will do the work for you.
For QNX, HTML5 is the name of the game in future automotive technology, allowing developers to utilize the elite experience of the software applicable in a potential variety of vehicles. HTML5 offers auto software manufacturers the opportunity to develop new content and services while keeping the consumer connected to their everyday apps and tech.

“The QNX CAR 2 application platform is designed from the ground up to leverage these benefits. Its auto-centric HTML5 framework allows developers to easily reskin entire user interfaces — essential to projecting a unique brand identity — cost-effectively for multiple model lines. It also allows them to blend HTML5 applications with those created with Qt, OpenGL ES, and other user interface technologies — all on the same display and even at the same time. This highly flexible architecture for building a unified user experience enables manufacturers to take a best-of-breed approach when designing their systems and to leverage existing software investments while tapping into the power of HTML5,” said a QNX official statement.
Outstanding to see in-person, QNX’s concept is something consumers and the automotive industry should look forward to. Bringing the Porsche into the world of automotive connectivity, entertainment and functionality, QNX and automotive manufacturers will have consumers anticipating the development of its concept car into a retail opportunity.
