An incredible sight, the “World’s Largest Emerald” is making its way to Kelowna, British Columbia. Measuring at an outstanding 57,000 carats, the emerald is named “Teodora” which when translated means “God’s gift.”

Owned by Calgary resident Regan Reany, the emerald’s origin is reported to have been mined in Brazil but cut and then purchased by Reany from India.

Jeff Nechka of Premier Gems appraised the approximately 25 pound emerald at $1.15 million, but at auction Western Star Auctions owner Mike Odenback estimates the gem to be valued higher.

"It's a very beautiful deep green. To me it's just a thing of beauty. It's spectacular. It's just nothing short of spectacular," said Odenbach.

Odenbach expects that a collector will win this exciting auction, stating that interest in the emerald has been seen locally as well as globally, reaching as far as Texas and even Dubai. The “Teodora” will be auctioned at Western Star Auctions at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 28th.

This auction has brought quite a bit of media attention to Western Star Auctions. Hoping to receive benefits toward his company other than commission, Odenbach  is pursuing a reality TV show centred around the auction house.
