Happy Holidays readers! Check out, this week, Business Review Canada's top daily stories of the year. We'll be featuring one story a day that reader's like the most. Today we feature Lifestyle's top story: Jim Carrey The Painter
After more than 30 years in the movie making business, Jim Carrey has quite a few well-known movies under his belt. From “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” to “Bruce Almighty” Carrey is widely regarded as one funny guy. Surprisingly, recent news has come to light revealing that acting isn’t the only thing Carrey has a talent for. It turns out, Carrey is equally passionate about painting.
In a recent interview where Carrey was promoting “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” on NBC’s “Tonight Show” starring Jay Leno, Carrey explained his lifelong hobby.
“I have paint everywhere in my life,” said Carrey. “I love painting. I’ve become quite addicted to it.”
This was clear when Leno took a look at Carrey’s shoes. “No I uh, I get paint on everything now, and I just leave it there because I think it looks cool,” he explained.
After seeing examples of Carrey’s artwork, it’s obvious that this isn’t just a hobby. Carrey additionally explained that his passion isn’t something new either.
“I’ve done it my whole life in little spurts and I also sketched a lot. I won art exhibitions as a kid. I was really into it, I would get so upset if somebody took me out of my drawing, or interrupted it in any way. My mom would say, ‘Jim, time for bed’ and I would say ‘Aw mom, I’m drawing, can’t I stay up for ten more minutes?’ and she’d say ‘No, I already gave you ten minutes,’ and I’d say ‘I’LL KILL EVERYONE IN THEIR SLEEP’ and she’d say ‘Ok, ten more minutes.”
In between movie projects, Carrey has been focusing heavily on painting and art. Sharing new pieces through social media, specifically his Twitter Page, Carrey is slowly showing the world what he’s producing.
“I’ve really gotten passionate about it over the years. I have a studio in New York now, I paint there, I paint everywhere now,” explained Carrey. “I love it so much. I am in heaven, truly in the womb when I do it. It’s physically tasking and a really, really intense process. Every character I do in the painting, I’ll put a different type of music on; sometimes I’ll rave out.”
But will Carrey take his art to the retail masses? When asked if he’d have a gallery showing, Jim Carrey said, “I will reveal myself to the world very soon.”
As a business venture, Carrey’s talent and celebrity status could carry his work far. Because of this many are wondering why he hasn’t pursued a venture yet. When asked if he was worried about critics, Carrey laughed, “I’m not worried about critics after Ace Ventura.”
Hopefully fans and critics alike will get a better look at what Carrey is producing soon. Although sharing via social media helps, many fans can’t wait to get a closer look.
