Rachel McAdams thinks being green is sexy, at least that is what her website “Green is Sexy” motto is all about. Making headlines for her phenomenal acting career with such highlights as “The Notebook,” “Wedding Crashers,” “Sherlock Holmes,” “Midnight in Paris” and more, many do not know about her passion for the environmentally friendly.

Self described as OCD for unplugging anything with a plug—McAdams’ love for the planet started at an early age. Enjoying nature and the outdoors during summers at a cottage, swimming in the Great Canadian Lakes, riding her bicycle around the neighbourhood and tobogganing in the woods throughout the winter, McAdams’ childhood was spent outdoors.

The idea to start the Green is Sexy website came from conversation between friends. Focusing on a common interest in reducing their own impact on the environment, McAdams, Megan Kuhlmann and Didi Bethurum regularly exchanged “quips and tips” on going green. Hoping to spread this knowledge across the Web, the three started Green is Sexy specifying that the website promoted tiny changes that resulted in big impacts.

A blog and community that thrived for the past five years, Green is Sexy imparted weekly wisdom with tips on just what small changes the website’s community could make to gain a relatively large impact in their local area. From switching to CFL bulbs to using manual doors verses automatic, Green is Sexy has loads of advice on making green changes in one’s everyday life. Hitting on subjects such as the home, special occasions, on the road, in the office and even in the yard and garden—Green is Sexy’s blog posts covered green ideas and advice for every and any instance.

Creating a website community that was about changing the world, Green is Sexy developed relationships with many, including hosting a Facebook group of approximately 3,745 members. Although Green is Sexy is on hiatus from its weekly advice posts, it’s clear McAdams’ work promoted an unstoppable environmentally friendly community that continually shares insight and information via social networks.

Taking a passion for the environment and actually creating a worthwhile community to surround it, McAdams’ venture into business can be seen as successful. Only time will tell what this wondrous Canadian actress will produce next.
