CTV and the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced today the host of the 2012 Juno Awards: Canadian icon William Shatner. Broadcasted Sunday April 1st on CTV from Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, the 2012 Juno Awards recognizes and celebrates Canadian music artists and bands.

"I'm so pleased to be a part of THE JUNO AWARDS," said William Shatner. "To be part of Canada's entertainment industry is a point of pride."

Shatner, most known for his roles as Captain James T Kirk on Star Trek or for Denny Crane on Boston Legal, is a prominent Canadian celebrity.

"A true Canadian icon, we are thrilled to welcome the man and the legend, William Shatner, as host of THE 2012 JUNO AWARDS broadcast," said Phil King, President CTV Programming and Sports. "A recording artist himself, Mr. Shatner will bring his irreverent sense of humour and love for his home country to his role as host of Canada's Music Awards."

Additionally announced today was the current performance lineup for the show.  The 2012 Juno Awards will feature performances from Blue Rodeo, City and Colour, deadmau5, Feist, Hedley and Nickelback with more artist performance announcements to come in upcoming weeks.  

Those interested in attending can purchase tickets through Scotiabank Place Box Office, or in Ottawa at the Sens Store, Ottawa Sports Experts and Les Galeries de Hull. Tickets will be available for purchase starting Friday February 10th.
