Happy Canada Day!

If you’re in Ottawa today the Capital is hosting a multitude of events to celebrate the holiday. Expecting thousands of Canadians to participate, Ottawa’s celebrations include a noon and evening show with performances by Simple Plan, Feist, Neverest and Hey Ocean.

“This year, the Canada Day noon show will offer diverse performances that will capture the heart of all Canadians as we celebrate the heritage of the War of 1812 and our Canadian heroes. Their efforts tell part of the story of the Canada we know today – an independent and free country with a constitutional monarchy and its own parliamentary system,” said Minister Moore. “This is an opportunity to join with your family and friends and celebrate your pride in being Canadian.”

The Noon show will feature a traditional flypast of CF-18s and the Snowbirds Demonstration Team. Paying tribute to the War of 1812’s heritage, the Noon show will also highlight Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 100th celebration of the Grey Cup. Performances at the noon show include:

  • Jully Black, Ontario
  • The Drums, Crown Forces 1812, Ontario
  • Feist, Alberta
  • Neverest, Ontario
  • Donny Parenteau, Saskatchewan
  •  Roch Voisine, New Brunswick
  •  Simple Plan, Quebec

At 7:30 pm, Parliament Hill will host the Canada Day 2012 evening show, the largest Canada Day show in the country. Artists are performing in an effort to celebrate the country’s 145th anniversary. Those artists include:

  • Misstress Barbara, Québec – electronica
  • Donny Parenteau, Saskatchewan – country
  •  Jully Black, Ontario – R&B
  • Marie-Mai, Quebec – pop-rock
  • Roch Voisine, New Brunswick – pop
  • Simple Plan, Quebec – rock
  • Feist, Alberta – independent

Presented by the NCC, Chicken Farmers of Canada, Manulife Financial and President’s Choice, it sounds like an event you don’t want to miss—especially since attending is free.
