Well known as a premier destination for Canadians in Mexico, the City of Cozumel is sharing its attributes with the world by kicking off its first annual Celebrity Golf Tournament next week. Occurring from May 31st through June 3rd, the golf tournament will benefit local charities, include a poker tournament and provide locals access to a unique sporting event.
Held at the Cozumel Country Club, the par 72 course was designed by the Nicklaus Design Group, thus creating a 6,734 yard golf opportunity that emphasizes the ecological preservation of surrounding mangrove marshlands and tropical rainforests.
The golf tournament is sponsored by the state government of Quntana Roo, the local government of Cozumel, Fox Sports, Señor Froggs, Avis and more. Participating celebrities include Bob Beamon, Jorge Campos, Antonio Freeman, Eddie George, Andrew McCarthy, Ed Marianaro, Dave Parker, Bruce Smith, James Scott, Dave Stewart, Daryl Talley, Thurman Thomas, Billy Saint and more. The tournament will be a competition between groups of three and FOX Sports will cover the event and air an hour special of the tournament sometime in late June or early July.
“I’m very excited to be involved. I’ve always been a big fan of Mexico, particularly Cozumel. It’s a beautiful part of the world,” said Ed Marianaro at an official press conference.
