McDonald’s Canada announced today its plans to remake its classic Happy Meal. Introducing an automatic offering of yogurt and the choice of apple slices or a reduced-size French fries side, the Happy Meal is part of McDonald’s commitment toward providing customers a more nutrition-minded menu.
"We've worked diligently to offer more variety in our Happy Meal so that the things kids love are also the things that parents can feel good about," said John Betts, President and CEO of McDonald's Canada. "By offering more balanced choices to choose from, we're supporting parents in encouraging their children to enjoy foods that are good for them."
The new Happy Meal, along with its nutritious new sides, includes the choice of a hamburger, cheeseburger, Chicken McNuggets or a Chicken Snack Wrap and a choice of beverage. The new reduced-size fries are sized at 31 grams, half the size of McDonald’s small size French Fries, and are approximately 100 calories. If customers choose apple slices, children will receive a full serving of fruit. The new automatic yogurt is Danino’s strawberry yogurt which will provide customers with a source of calcium and vitamin D.

"Parents want the very best for their kids and so do we," added Betts. "We continue to take a holistic approach to nutrition and remain as committed as ever to bringing all of our customers delicious choices they can also feel good about."
This Happy Meal change isn’t the only change McDonald’s Canada has embarked upon. In an effort to reduce sodium levels in McDonald’s fast food, Chicken McNuggets sodium levels have been reduced by 5.6 per cent.
