Whether you start your morning with a croissant, a donut or two, or a kosher bagel, it is more than likely you would be able to find your favorite baked goods at Fiera Foods.

Based in Toronto, Fiera Foods was founded in 1987 by Alex Garber and Boris Serebryany,with the intention of merger their respective engineering and manufacturing backgrounds to build a strong baked goods production company.

Initially, the company worked from a 4,200 sq. ft. facility, but within seven years the business had grown to the point where Fiera expanded its facility to 27,000 sq. ft.

Only a year later,the company was impelled to add another 60,000 sq ft to make room for its growth in the North American market.

Growth continued for the company and in 1998 another 140,000 sq ft. facility was built by the company and Bakery Deluxe was added to the company.

According to the company's website, the additional capacity helped the company accommodate the growth of its frozen raw bakery production,and enabled Fiera Foods to mass produce baked goods.

Currently, the company continues to grow with more than 1,000 employees and 50,000 more square feet of production capabilities. The company has also added 70,000 sq. ft. of freezer storage and 70,000 sq. ft. of dry storage.

Further, the company is actively involved in a number of programs that includes accredited audits of its facilities, kosher certification, allergen controls, a health and safety program, preventative pest program, Bioterrorism Act registration, and is NAFTA registered.

With regard to its kosher designation, Fiera Foods kosher products go well beyond just bagels,to include croissants, Danish, puff pastry, cookies, muffins and cakes. With these pre-baked products, the company also offers proof and bake, par-bake, freezer-to-oven, and thaw and sell food products.

The company has also received Grade A accreditation for its Marmora Street facility from the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

According to Fiera Foods' website, to receive the accreditation the company's facility underwent an extensive two day audit that is designed to thoroughly review its management systems documentation and actual practices on the production floor.

As Alex Garber writes on the company's website, "Our goal is a commitment to continuously improve performance through awareness, training, and education. Operations are conducted in a responsible manner with a priority on ensuring our food products, customers and employees are safe. As one of the few companies who registered for the Bioterrorism Act prior to the FDA's cut-off date, we continue to excel in external accredited auditors lists such as American Institute of Baking International; American Sanitation Institute; Silliker Incorporated, Guelph Food Technology Centre, and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency."

Fiera Foods also holds memberships in a number of organizations, including the American Association of Cereal Chemists International, American Institute of Baking, Bakery Association of Canada, Canadian Restaurant and Food Service Association, International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association, Kashruth Council of Canada, National Association of Convenience Stores, and the Retail Bakers Association.

With its success, the company has also taken its social responsibility seriously and is an active sponsor of charities such as the colitis Foundation, the SickKids Foundation, the Breast Cancer Foundation, among others.

The company's success can be attributed to a number of factors, which includes innovation.

According to its website, Fiera Foods inhouse research and development center is staffed with professionals that have expertise in technical research, master baker creativity, and market driven intelligence.

The company also has a team of engineers on staff to help the company find the most efficient means to bring its products to market.
