The diagnosis was received this summer and now the treatment starts.
Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital will be supervised by its former President and CEO Ken Deane to address pathology reporting, staff cohesion and other operating issues outlined in the Report of the Investigators of Surgical and Pathology Issues at Three Essex County Hospitals.
"I’m looking forward to the challenge of working with everyone at the Hôtel-Dieu Grace, focusing on our responsibility to deliver the best health care to the people of Windsor,” said Ken Deane.
“The best results come from strong and effective teams, working with clear roles and relationships. I will be very clear about what we’re going to accomplish and then empowering people to do their jobs."
Many are already clamoring over the appointment, questioning how the former CEO is capable of fixing problems that manifested under his watch originally. Well, Ken Deane has led several hospital reorganizations, presented at numerous conferences, written several management articles, and served on boards and committees in social services and health care.
Deane will take control of the hospital board and work closely with senior hospital officials and the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network.
In all fairness, Deane’s focus at the time was a turnaround plan to address the hospital's financial and operational issues, a far cry from managing the pathology department.
Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care at the direction of the McGuinty Government made the move to implement the report’s recommendations.
"I have full confidence in Mr. Ken Deane. He will ensure that the recommendations from the Report of the Investigators of Surgical and Pathology Issues at Three Essex County Hospitals are implemented as quickly as possible, with the best interest of patients in mind,” said Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
“I want people in Windsor to know that they can count on receiving high quality care at the Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital."
Recommendations to be Implemented:
• Introducing a rotating pathologist available daily that interacts openly with the Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital clinicians and is readily available for consultations and rounds.
• All pathologists participate in continuing professional development under the guidance of the Department Chief.
• The current pathology reporting processes be reviewed by the leadership of pathology and surgery at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital.
