The Canadian government continues working hard to sell itself and its economic opportunities, abroad.

The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, had the ears of prominent leaders from the 34 countries in the Western Hemisphere and over 1000 senior business leaders over the last two days.

The talk comes less than a week after The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, brokered a deal with the China Insurance Regulatory Commission that designates Canada as a destination for Chinese insurance wealth management business.

Clement concluded two days at the Americas Competitiveness Forum in Atlanta, Ga. — one of the premiere forums for business and government leaders from the Americas, on Tuesday.

Clement met with a number of key business and political leaders from the Americas, including U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke and Mexican Secretary of Economy Bruno Ferrari Garcia de Alba.

"In this time of economic recovery, our government remains committed to our policy of promoting a freer flow of capital, ideas and people between Canada and our hemispheric partners," said Minister Clement.

"Impressive economic development is taking place in the Americas, and Canada has much to offer businesses looking to invest. We know from experience that freer trade helps create prosperity for all."

Minister Clement delivered an address to Canadian and American business leaders at an Invest in Canada breakfast seminar hosted by the Consul General of Canada in Atlanta and Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada.

The Minister also opened the Presidential Plenary session of the forum, which was attended by presidents and vice-presidents from countries across the Americas.

The Americas Competitiveness Forum is a two-day forum for business leaders and policy makers to discuss the key factors to can enable national economies to achieve sustained economic growth and long-term prosperity.

The goal is to provide a platform for dialogue and tools to identify obstacles to improved competitiveness and stimulate discussion on strategies to overcome them.
